The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Preview Debuts, Unveiling New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voice Cast
Nintendo alongside Illumination unveiled the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. The reveal happened in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that centered on the forthcoming animated feature.
The sequel to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will propel Mario to the far corners of the cosmos. In his journey, he meets a fresh princess character and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the heir to Bowser's throne.
A Cosmic Adventure Based on Iconic Releases
Similar to the Wii-era games that act as its source material, Mario will depart from the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. On his epic voyage, he will meet again some familiar faces, including the Luma, a popular character from the first movie.
But it appears Mario and his sibling Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who seemingly utilizes powers related to metal. Interestingly, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not only concentrated on Galaxy-themed scenes; it also contains hints to additional popular titles like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
All-Star Vocal Ensemble Returns and Expands
The film will feature once again of the primary vocal talent, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
A Big Year for Mario
The new Mario movie is set to release around the time of the 40-year celebration of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. In addition to the movie, 2026 is shaping up to be a significant year for Mario and his friends.
Nintendo has a trio of new releases officially announced for that year, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a latest Yoshi adventure game titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Premiere Date Announced
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
